The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) offers the following two CE/CMEs for health care clinicians who want to know how to treat patients with opioid medications in ways that mitigate the risk of abuse, as well as what steps to take if a patient begins showing signs and symptoms of abuse. These CE programs can be found on the AANP CE Center:
- Safe Prescribing for Pain
- Managing Pain Patients Who Abuse Rx Drugs
NIDA will launch a CE/CME on adolescent substance use in 2016 with the support of AANP, a member of the newly established NIDAMED Coalition of Healthcare Organizations. The purpose of the coalition is to work together as an inter-professional collaboration to educate providers on best practices to address substance use disorder in their adolescent patients.
Visit NIDAMED’s website to learn more about CE/CME and clinical resources, including screening tools, opioid agreements, and patient education materials.
